Fiji Shopping & Markets
Shopping in Fiji is part of the rich cultural experience waiting for you in Viti Levu (the Fiji Islands). Here you can indulge your love of designer shoes and perfumes or get comfortable in the hot Fiji weather in a Sulu - the famous one size fits all Fijian dress.
The most popular items on Fiji shopping lists are traditional Fiji handicrafts. These include woven materials such as fine Masi or tapa cloth, woven mats and baskets and carved items such as kava bowls, war canoes and cannibal forks (a symbol of a darker time in Fiji's culture). Other Fiji craft items include pottery and jewellery including the stunning black pearls grown in Savusavu Bay.
The best location to shop for Fiji handicrafts is the Government handicrafts centre in Suva. Shopping for handicrafts is also available in most other towns and small villages dotted across a Fiji map.
Fiji markets are located in almost every village, with the main markets being the famous Sigatoka Markets on the Coral Coast, the Nadi Markets and the Suva Municipal markets. Visit the markets for fresh fruit and vegetables and a chat with the locals.
For more general shopping, visit the major centres of Suva, Lautoka and Nadi. Shopping in these cities you will find the major duty free stores, international boutiques as well as smaller shops selling Fiji souvenirs, Indian artefacts and silks. Many of the larger stores in the towns are fixed price, but if stores are operated by Indo-Fiji vendors, then bartering is expected.
